Davis & Gilbert Labor & Employment Breakfast Seminar
September 2013

Examining Recent Supreme Court Decisions and Their Effect on Your Daily HR Practice

During its recently completed term, the Supreme Court decided several employer-friendly employment- and benefits-related cases that will directly impact daily human resources practices. This seminar will focus on these rulings in detail and provide best practices to implement in the wake of these key decisions. Specifically, this seminar will cover the Court’s decisions:

  • Confirming the enforceability of arbitration agreements that waive class action rights
  • Narrowing the definition of “supervisor” in harassment cases
  • Defining and limiting a cause of action for retaliation
  • Regarding the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the resulting impact on federal employment and benefits laws

In addition, there will be an update on what employers must still do now in respect to health care reform, even though the Obama administration recently delayed certain Affordable Care Act provisions.
