Davis & Gilbert is a community of colleagues who enjoy practicing law and helping clients achieve their business objectives. The culture at our firm is one of open doors, collaboration and teamwork in a business-casual atmosphere. We believe that Davis & Gilbert provides its attorneys with the opportunity to practice in dynamic and emerging areas of the law, use their creative talents, be challenged on a daily basis and have fun doing it. We therefore are able to attract and retain smart, talented and motivated attorneys.

To keep our attorneys informed about what is happening overall at the firm, we periodically hold firm wide "town hall" meetings that enable senior firm management to discuss new initiatives, client successes and the direction of the firm and that provide all attorneys the opportunity to express their ideas and concerns about the firm.

At Davis & Gilbert, we care deeply for the proper training of all of our attorneys. We strive for a free flow of information between and among our attorneys. Part of our philosophy includes on-the-job training - learning by doing - with partners serving as mentors and coaches. In that regard, associates are actively involved in cases and transactions right from the start, and have the opportunity to assume responsibility and exercise authority early in their careers. We staff our projects and litigation matters leanly, often with no more than a partner and a single associate. In virtually all instances, our associates work daily with partners and directly with clients and therefore are able to learn quickly and see the "big picture."

Although on-the-job training is an integral component of how attorneys learn at Davis & Gilbert, we do not ignore more structured training. Formal training is handled at the practice-group level, and periodic training sessions on various topics are offered to all attorneys for CLE credit. Attorneys also are encouraged to attend outside CLE conferences in their area of focus. In addition, monthly practice group meetings are held that give attorneys the opportunity to learn from the practical experiences of others in their group. At every level, mentoring and informal training take place every day, through both formal and informal relationships between and among partners and associates.

Davis & Gilbert also works hard to provide its attorneys with the support they need to develop their careers and individual client base. We encourage associates to develop a niche in a particular area of focus and to market and develop business by writing articles, speaking at conferences and joining trade associations. An interest in and pursuit of new business opportunities is never discouraged.

The majority of the attorneys at Davis & Gilbert started their careers at larger firms, and find a better work/life balance here. While a career as an attorney can often be stressful and time consuming, we respect our lawyers' families and encourage activities outside the practice of law because that is the right thing to do. Other interests also lead to more thoughtful and well-rounded individuals who are able to provide a greater contribution to the firm's success. We provide family-friendly benefits and workplace policies that address such issues as FMLA leave, part-time employment, and other ways to help balance family and work life.

The Davis & Gilbert Summer Associate Program has become an integral component of the firm’s attraction and retention of young, talented attorneys. Given the size of our firm, our summer classes are necessarily small. We believe that the size of our program gives law students the ability to see firsthand exactly what it is like to be a young associate at the firm, as they receive the same type and quality of work that our junior associates receive.

Law students in our Summer Associate Program work on assignments in each of our practice areas: Advertising, Marketing & Promotions; Corporate; Litigation; Labor & Employment; and Real Estate. Each summer associate has a mentor and receives both formal and informal training and significant feedback throughout the program.

Please note that we do not have a 2L Summer Associate Program.
